Noise´s Top 10 2023

What a year.

2023 - barely begun, already over again. And what a year it was! We were constantly on the road with Kanonenfieber, had two major tours with bands that have inspired me since their inception, played huge festivals and finally got Non Est Deus ready for the stage.

And what do you have a lot of time for when touring? That's right! Listening to music!
Here are my top 10 albums of 2023!

Platz 1

Moonlight Sorcery
Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle

According to Spotify, this is the album I've celebrated the most this year. And Spotify is damn right. I don't know how many times I've listened to this treat in its entirety. These lead guitars, this melodic line, unbelievably good. The album is a concept album and describes a continuous story with all the songs. I haven't outlined exactly what it's about myself. Lots of blood, ghosts and magic. But what the hell. This album is an absolute must for every fan of melodic, atmospheric, riff-laden black metal. Never boring, great production, strong songwriting - the record is just a lot of fun.

Antrisch
Expedition II - Die Passage

Expedition II was my first great love this year. What Antrisch has created here makes you shudder. Even the intro to "I Festgefroren" with the nasty speech passages, the guitar carpet and the choir interlude. Madness. The lyricism of this work of power is by far the best that 2023 had to offer. The songwriting, the production, everything is just right. Because of this album, I made it my mission to get Antrisch on stage - which I did! I'm already looking forward to their premiere at Noisebringer Fest!

Sleep Token
Take me back to Eden

"Take Me Back To Eden" is the most innovative thing I've heard in 2023. The mix of: Pop, Rock, Metal, Fusion, Jazz, Electro, Ambient, Singer Songwriter and the devil knows what else, was absolutely impossible in my mind - until this record came out. Vessel is a musical genius. Over and out.

Platz 4

None
Inevitable

This record had me in its clutches for quite a while. If you were to ask me what depression sounds like - None have nailed it with Inevitable. Sluggish, dark, deeply sad, beautiful.

Platz 5

Porta Nigra
Weltende

World War I, blackened death metal, language samples, I guess that's all I need to say at this point? This record pushes, presses and blasts. Paired with great lyrics and catchy riffs. Listen to it!

Platz 6

Berzerker Legion
Chaos will Reign

What would a Top 10 be without a traditional death metal record? Exactly, incomplete! That's why the all-star project "Berzerker Legion" comes into play here.
What you can expect on Chaos will Reign is the finest, melodic death metal with catchy choruses, a fat guitar sound and brute assertiveness. An inspiring record that, in my opinion, has received far too little attention! This record is brilliant!

Platz 7

Humanity's Last Breath
Ashen

The good Buster Odeholm has unleashed another vicious plank on mankind. The multi-instrumentalist and producer has once again outdone himself with "Ashen". Absolutely crazy song structures, incomparable riffing paired with the best production of the year. This man is an absolute force at the mixing desk. This album offers 47 minutes of pounding, driving evilness. Awesome!

Endstille
Detonation

Bloody hell, finally another Endstille record! And it's good! Period.

Platz 9

Sworn
A Journey told through Fire

The Norwegians Sworn have truly created something special with their latest release! Great melodies, lots of melancholy and plenty of atmosphere. This album is still fun even after the tenth listen. Seeing the guys live is definitely on my bucket list!

Platz 10

Orbit Culture
Descent

After seeing Orbit Culture at Summer Breeze, I knew that this band had a stellar career ahead of them. Everything is right here. Sound, songwriting, production, feeling. An absolute must for fans of Machinehead, Gojira and Hypocrisy.
